Using WinISIS for Terminology Documentation within the Framework of the TDCnet Project

The TDCnet Project (European Terminology Documentation Centre Network) is a EU funded project (MLIS 4000 TDCNET 24264/0) with the main objective to create a "virtual terminology directory" in the form of a logical and physical network of terminology information and documentation centres in Europe. Within this network, information about terminological data collections, literature, theses, software, events, experts, organisations, and training courses will be exchanged between the national and regional information centres, compiled to European terminology directory and disseminated via the world wide web. The German Information and Documentation Centre for Terminology (DEUTERM) is decisively involved in preparing detailed recommendations and technical specifications for the operation of the network. At the same time, DEUTERM has to collect, prepare and provide information on terminological documents and activities in German; these data have to be managed electronically and exchanged within the TDCnet using the TeDIF formalism (Terminology Documentation Interchange Format).

The paper describes the different types of terminology relevant "documents", defines the data categories needed to describe and characterize these documents, and demonstrates the adaptation and use of the CDS/ISIS for Windows software for the management of documents and facts about terminology. Special attentions is directed to the production of export files in TeDIF format.
