Conférence
pour une Conferencia para una infraestructura terminolgica en Europa Conference
for a terminology

le 13-14-15/03/2000
In this paper, a brief historical overview of the work that was done over the years in the area of establishing a terminological infrastructure for Europe will be given, especially focusing on the activities of the European Association for Terminology (EAFT). This is relevant since it forms the basis of the conclusions that I, as former President of the EAFT, have drawn from my experien-ces while trying to help establish such a terminological infrastructure. Furthermore, the paper will include a description of the situation that, to my knowledge, now exists in Europe and will be con-cluded by some suggestions for a practical plan of action that may help to incite those who recognise and support the need for the establishment of a terminological infrastructure for Europe to initiate practical actions that are feasible on a short term basis.
